The Specialty of Bra Fittings at The Birth Boutique

The Birth Boutique has over 30 different styles of maternity/nursing bras to choose from, and a special type of fitting that is unique to our store. We can fit you for a nursing bra during pregnancy so you are not buying bras over and over again, as well as maternity bras for the non-nursing mother. We also guarantee our fittings until 6 months postpartum. Meaning, we will re-fit and replace your bra if we determine the bra does not fit you properly.

The importance of a good bra fitting and a supportive bra

Pregnancy and nursing are the two times when your breasts are bigger and heavier than at any other time in your life. A supportive bra is more of a health issue than a fashion concern.

Why is a properly fit bra a health concern and why would I need a fitting?

Improperly fit bras with poor support can lead to the stretching of Cooper’s ligaments in the chest wall. This causes the stretching and “sagging” of the breasts associated with pregnancy.
Most importantly, improperly fit bras or bras with under-wire can lead to breast infection during pregnancy as well as during lactation.

When is the best time for me to get fit for a bra?

Any time from 20 weeks to delivery- the sooner the better!
All breast growth occurs during the first trimester up to 20 weeks of pregnancy. After 20 weeks only the band grows from your belly and rib cage expanding.
After delivery, your breasts only fill (not growing) with engorgement which only lasts 2-4 weeks, then your breasts go back to pregnancy size for the rest of the time you are nursing.
You will need bras for the hospital and after (immediately). You will need a comfortable, supportive bra to sleep in and wear 24hr/ day in the beginning.
The best and most comfortable time to get fit for a bra is before delivery when you are not engorged and leaking!
